The first month of the year is always a great start for extravagant festivals in our dear country of the Philippines. And gladly, the Sinulog Festival is one of the best celebrations to kick off a fun-filled year. Drawing pilgrims from all over the country every third Sunday of January, Sinulog started as an animist ritual, with the term sinulog pertaining to a dance movement imitating water, but was turned to a Catholic tradition to commemorate the Feast of the Santo Niño.
While the activities will vary every year, the essence stays the same. But here are the stuff to always look forward annually in Sinulog Festival:
1. Cultural Shows
Every year would always dedicate a slot for schools and other groups to perform a cultural showcase at Fuente Osmeña Circle. Lavish on the bursts of colors, coming from the topnotch productions from different groups. This Saturday, the grandest showcase will be coming from the Wonju Dynamic Dancing Carnival from South Korea, who will be performing at the Plaza Independencia.
